Nigeria Immigration Service introduces new visa fees and announces the implementation date for the Nigeria Visa Policy 2020

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), through a press release on 30 September 2020, announced the introduction of new visa fees and the implementation date for the Nigeria Visa Policy 2020 (NVP or the Policy).

The new visa fees, approved by the Honourable Minister of Interior, will cover all countries and categories of applicants based on the principle of reciprocity. Please access the comprehensive list of the visa fees via this link.

The NVP, which was designed to revolutionise the visa regime in Nigeria, was launched by President Muhammadu Buhari on 4 February 2020 (please click here to access our newsletter on the Policy). In the press release, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service informed the general public that the implementation date of the NVP is 1 October 2020.

The introduction of the new visa fees and implementation date for the NVP 2020 is a laudable step by the NIS, however, the modalities around the implementation of the much awaited NVP is yet to be announced. We expect that in the coming days, clarity on the implementation will be provided.
