FIRS extends filing deadline for corporate tax returns by 7 days

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has issued a public notice (the Notice) informing the public of a 7-day extension granted to companies whose tax returns (i.e. Companies Income Tax (CIT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding tax (WHT) and petroleum profit tax (PPT)) were due as at 31 July 2020. Such companies can now file their tax returns not later than 7 August 2020.

According to the FIRS, this additional grace period was granted due to the Eid-el-Kabir celebration on 30 and 31 July 2020 respectively. By the Notice, companies whose 2020 tax returns were due as at 31 July 2020 can take advantage of this extended deadline to file their tax returns without incurring any penalty for late filing.
