Federal Government of Nigeria announces further measures to curb the spread of Covid-19

In furtherance of the efforts to curtail the wanton spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID- 19 or the virus), the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) recently announced the following additional measures meant to last for four weeks, subject to further review:

  • Closure of all airports to international flights – effective from Monday, 23 March 2020;
  • Blanket suspension of Visa on Arrival (VoA) and Temporary Work Permit (TWP) to intending visitors; and
  • Addition of Austria and Sweden to the list of countries handed entry restriction in Nigeria

These additional steps reinforce the commitment of the FGN, to prevent the country from the scourge that the Pandemic has caused in other countries. We expect that the FGN will continue to review the restrictions and their continued relevance would be determined based on the spread and control of the virus.
