CBN restricts dividend pay-out by banks
The apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has issued new guidelines to all banks including Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) and Discount Houses (DHs), on internal capital generation and dividend pay-out ratio. The new guidelines, issued via a circular (the Circular) referenced BSD/DIR/GEN/LAB/11/002 and dated 31 January 2018, becomes effective immediately.

A Federal High Court (FHC) on 13 March 2017, delivered a judgment on the validity of the circular issued by Central Bank of Nigeria referenced CBN/GEN/DMB/02/006, in the case between Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited (AKA Shoprite) and the defendants Citibank Nigeria Limited (Citibank) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
TAX ALERT: New FHC Judgement Nullifies CBN Circular on Collection of N50 Stamp Duty
A Federal High Court (FHC) sitting in Ikoyi Lagos, on 13 March 2017, nullified the circular issued by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which mandates all deposit money banks and other financial institutions to enforce collection of ₦50 stamp duty on all electronic transfers and teller deposits from ₦1,000 and above.
Tax Alert | Migration of physical CCIs due latest 28 November, 2016
Some deposit money banks have recently sent out notices to customers to submit active (i.e. unutilized/partly utilized) physical certificates of capital importation (CCIs) for data capturing and migration to the new electronic format (e-CCI). This notice is in line with the recent activities of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) geared towards automating the process for issuance and administration of CCIs.
